The Cheshire County Show – 19th and 20th June

Posted on

Well folks, there’s only one word that sums up The Cheshire County Show for me – IMMENSE! I had no idea it was on such a huge scale. It’s like going to Leeds festival, only the music is much worse and the food is much better!

I went on both days this year to take in as much of what the show has to offer. There are areas dedicated to the judging of cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, poultry, rabbits, cavies and pigeons, with some amazing specimens and rare breeds on show. There was show-jumping, vintage machinery, a village green with bandstand and a Countryside Experience Arena with such pursuits as archery and shooting along with a fairground to entertain the younger audience. The main arena showed performances from the Cheshire Constabulary Dogs Unit, a daredevil stunt show, falconers, hounds, pony club games and so much more. There were stalls for country clothing, outdoor pursuits, wood carving, a blacksmiths, craft market, Women’s Institute, shopping hall, enormous food hall incorporating a cheese tent and food theatre, agricultural centre, a farmer’s market and numerous mini showrooms set up for cars, caravans and motor homes.

The two day event, held at Tabley Showground, is run by the Cheshire Agricultural Society, established in 1838. The CAS now partners with such companies as Sainsbury’s (Agri-centre), Roberts bakery (food hall) and The Co-Operative (cheeses), not to mention the prestigious Cheshire Life magazine, to ensure the show is a success each year.

For similar events in your area visit the Association of Show and Agricultural Organisations at .

This year’s programme of events is below. I will also be posting a gallery of photos to whet your appetite for next year. I will certainly be doing my utmost to attend every year from now on!

Day 1 of the Cheshire Show

Posted on

Well I have lived in Cheshire all my life and I’m appalled to say I’ve never been to the Cheshire Show. I decided to get tickets for both days this year to catch up on everything I’ve been missing out on.

It was a superb day with more to see and do than I had imagined! There will be pics & posts to follow day 2 of the show tomorrow as I haven’t seen half of what was on offer yet.

If you can get down to Tabley for day 2 it’s well worth a visit!

Congleton Food & Drink Festival 2012

Posted on

Well after a miserable week the sun came out for the food & drink festival on Sunday which was a pleasant surprise! Last year’s festival was a huge success, with over 10,000 people attending the event. This year it was planned to be even bigger.

The main thoroughfare through the town was closed off and stalls lined the streets and were open from 10:30am until 4:30pm. It was buzzing with plenty of entertainment, food and drink stalls and other local businesses. There was a magician and live music and plenty of wonderful smells coming from the hot and cold food vendors. There was even a hog roast to enjoy at your leisure!

It was such a delight to see so many stalls offering local produce    and doing what they could to get locals of all ages involved. There was even a ‘Food Passport’ for children to have stamped every time they tried a taster from the stalls, which I think is a wonderful idea!

I have listed this year’s traders below. I will definitely be checking out their wares in future and hope to feature more of them on my blog in the coming months.

The festival kicks off the Tasty Town Week, from which I am sure there will be plenty more events for me to report on through the week. I’m definitely heading to the Teddy Bear’s Picnic on Thursday (with my son of course!) to enjoy story time with some life sized bears in the park!
